Zoom link to be provided with RSVP… The Hearth - RSVP
Our November Zoom Hearth is one of our most important. With an increase in suicide rates across the country, especially among vulnerable LGBTQ individuals, learning how to react to and notice suicidal behaviors of our loved ones and friends is more important than ever. Alyson Paul Deussen and Vickie Walker will present an informative and lifesaving QPR training. The QPR mission is “to save lives and reduce suicidal behaviors by providing innovative, practical, and proven suicide prevention training” that can empower “all people, regardless of their background, to make a positive difference in the life of someone they know.”
This “QPR Gatekeeper” training will certify each attendee on how to handle someone who is suicidal and in need of help. Think of it as CPR for suicidal persons. We would love to have you join us so you can be better equipped to help loved ones and friends.
In order the become a certified “Gatekeeper”:
It is required that you participate in the full 1.5 hr. class
You log into Zoom with your name
Have your video camera on
Participate so as to allow trainers to assess any possible triggers/needs from the content of the training.
KEY COMPONENTS COVERED IN TRAINING:
How to Question, Persuade and Refer someone who may be suicidal
How to get help for yourself or learn more about preventing suicide
The common causes of suicidal behavior
The warning signs of suicide
How to get help for someone in crisis
Much more information can be found at the QPR website -- QPRInstitute.com
A word of caution… if you have recently lost a friend or loved one to suicide or working with someone who is suicidal this course could be triggering. Please consider waiting if you are actively dealing with either of these situations.
